Following Liverpool FC’s astounding yet an equally embarrassing 7-2 loss to Aston Villa on Sunday, Virgil van Dijk has called upon his side to bounce back from their humiliation at Villa Park while speaking to Sky Sports.
The Dutch international was guilty of being a major part of the Liverpool FC backline that was exposed so horribly against Dean Smith’s men, with the Reds shipping seven goals in a league fixture for the first time in as many as 57 years.
When asked to comment upon the result, Van Dijk applauded the efforts of the Aston Villa players who stood out in their display against Jurgen Klopp’s side, the same which stormed to Premier League glory just the season before this.
The 29-year old did admit that he and his teammates should have performed way better than what was seen of their showing at Villa Park and added that the Reds should have capitalised upon their goalscoring chances as well.
“First and foremost, well done to Aston Villa. You have to give them the credit they deserve.
“Obviously the goals we conceded we should have done better but also the chances we had – because we had many – we should have done better as well.
“Overall we’re all very disappointed. We shouldn’t lose with the numbers we did and now it’s key to stick together and don’t let this happen again hopefully.”
