Xherdan Shaqiri set to extend to stay at Liverpool despite exit rumours

The future of Xherdan Shaqiri in the Liverpool FC is seemingly decided as the Swiss international’s move elsewhere this summer has failed to materialize.

As a result, the 28-year old, who has been one of the fringe players of Jurgen Klopp’s senior squad lately, will be staying at Anfield beyond the deadline day of this summer’s transfer window, according to reports from The Mirror. Shaqiri had been one of the few Reds’ first-team stars expected to leave the club due to less playing opportunities in recent times.

However, with Liverpool FC being unable to find any suitors for Shaqiri who were willing to shell out the price-tag put on the ex-Bayern Munich star forward’s head, Jurgen Klopp is understood to have vetoed any chance of the player sealing a departure on the last day of the transfer window.

There had been considerable interest in signing the Swiss attacker from Serie A outfit Lazio, however, the Italian side were mulling over a potential loan deal for Shaqiri, something the Reds did not want to relent to as a permanent move away for the player was Liverpool FC’s preferred choice of action.
