Liverpool FC old boy Jamie Carragher has expressed doubts over Jurgen Klopp extending his Anfield stay beyond the German’s current deal, which is set to expire in 2024, as per the former centre-back’s interview to the Liverpool Echo.
Klopp’s reign at the Merseyside outfit has been a resounding success so far, with the ex-Dortmund boss taking the job in 2015, giving rise to the club’s first league title in 30 years last season, as well as clinching Champions League glory across the 2018-19 European campaign for the Reds.
However, doubts do persist over Klopp choosing to extend his contract with Liverpool FC beyond 2024, following his own comments sometime earlier that he would like to take a break from coaching, and perhaps even take up the job at the German national team.
Speaking about the contribution of Liverpool FC’s current owners FSG to the club’s cause of domination in world football, Carragher pointed out that the American sports group, along with Klopp, have established their legacy at Liverpool FC for the years to come.
“They brought in the first title in 30 years, they got Jurgen Klopp at this club for longer than he’s been at any other, I am not quite sure he will stay at the end of his current contract.
“And fingers crossed there’s a few more trophies before Klopp goes or FSG go, whatever stage that is. So yes, I think they have done a great job.
“To be the owners that won the league, it is their legacy, isn’t it?”
Carragher’s praise for the John Henry-led FSG comes amid strong criticism of the American owners from all corners of the world following their plans in alliance with Manchester United’s Glazers of giving birth to the Project Big Picture.
