Leeds United’s Kalvin Phillips emerges as target for Liverpool and Tottenham

According to reports from the Daily Mail, Liverpool FC will go head to head with fellow top-flight rivals Tottenham Hotspurs to make a move for Leeds United midfield star Kalvin Phillips in the very near future.

The newly capped English international has made a bright start to life in the Premier League with Marco Bielsa’s Leeds and was a great performer for the Whites on their visit to Anfield on the opening day of the 2020-21 season, a game that ended in a lucky and narrow 4-3 victory for Jurgen Klopp’s men.

Phillips’ defensive acumen, along with his long-range passing vision has been lauded by a number of pundits across England, with speculation mounting that the 24-year old could be set to join a top-six side in the Premier League very soon.

Liverpool FC have several first-team midfield options at their disposal for now, however, with James Milner nearing the age of 35, and Gini Wijnaldum’s future at Anfield looking far from certain, Klopp could position himself in a battle with Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham to sign Phillips.

Spurs too are interested in the Leeds United star, however, the £50 million price-tag on the player’s head is bound to trouble a lot of clubs rumoured to be in the fray to land Phillips’ signature.
