Andy Robertson lambasts Everton players for their rash challenges in derby game

Liverpool FC left-back Andy Robertson has lashed out the Everton players for their rash style of play in Saturday’s Merseyside derby clash at Goodison Park that ended in a 2-2 draw for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Speaking to LFCTV following the game, Robertson was vocal in his criticism for the hosts’ defensive display, in particular the challenges that were thrown about by Carlo Ancelotti’s men over the course of a tense fixture between the two city-rivals.

“To be honest, I never saw [the Jordan Pickford challenge]. I just saw Virg going down.

“But the lads when they came in at half-time said it was a shocking challenge, so that’s two they’ve done us with today.

“I think it was already offside and they’d maybe called it, but for me it was the same as Richarlison’s. The whistle had already gone and he went flying in, it’s a red card.”

While Jordan Pickford’s early off-the-ball tackle on Virgil van Dijk led to the latter being taken off the pitch, a similar kind of challenge by Everton forward Richarlison on Liverpool FC’s new recruit Thiago Alcantara saw the Brazilian international getting a sending off by Michael Oliver.

The Reds have reportedly sought an explanation from the Premier League over Pickford’s challenge on Van Dijk not being deemed worthy of a red card, as well as Jordan Henderson’s stoppage-time strike going on to be disallowed, preventing Liverpool FC from bagging three points on their visit to Goodison Park.
