Jurgen Klopp showers huge praise on Marcus Rashford’s free meals campaign for children

Marcos Rashford’s exemplary off the field efforts to ensure that school-going children had access to free meals during the COVID-19 crisis in England has found another huge admirer, this time in the form of Liverpool FC boss Jurgen Klopp.

The German manager was generous in his praise for the Manchester United and England star while speaking to the Daily Mail, with Klopp admitting jokingly that it was ‘tricky’ for him to speak highly of the 22-year old Rashford, considering the fact that he plays for the Reds’ arch-rivals.

However, Klopp showered high praise on Rashford’s campaign for providing children with meals over the course of the lockdown period across the country, with the Manchester United star forward also being honoured with an MBE earlier this October for his contributions towards working on the child food poverty crisis in the country.

‘I am not sure I can find any better words than much smarter people have said but what Marcus has started there is absolutely incredible, it is so nice,’ said the Reds boss.

‘And with all the rivalry between the clubs, in these moments we are as footballers and as human beings always united.

‘It’s just nice to show in a time when obviously a lot of people who are really in charge of something and don’t show any sign of proper leadership, that a boy grown up in difficult circumstances and blessed with sensational talent, obviously, never forgot his roots and where he is coming from, that he has to do it.’

‘It is a bit of a shame that he has to do it but it is wonderful as well. I hope his mother is really proud of him. I don’t know him but even I am proud of him.’

‘And he plays for United which makes it really tricky! I’ve heard about Liverpool and Manchester United (rivalry) years and years ago.

Rashford’s notable efforts in fighting the child food poverty on his own have earned admirers for the English international across the footballing spectrum in the country, including the likes of Chelsea boss Frank Lampard and Liverpool FC left-back Andy Robertson, who had spoken very highly of the forward’s campaign.
