A Ligue 1 fixture between Lyon and AS Monaco saw Dutch international Memphis Depay send a heartwarming message to his compatriot Virgil van Dijk, who is currently battling an ACL injury and is set to have surgery on his injured knee.
The Liverpool FC centre-back was withdrawn from the pitch at Goodison Park a week ago, in the Reds’ 2-2 draw with Everton after being on the receiving end of a rather clumsy challenge from Jordan Pickford.
With the 29-year old tipped to miss the remainder of the 2020-21 season due to the injury, tributes from all over the footballing community have flown in for him, with Depay’s gesture following him scoring the opening goal against AS Monaco being the latest one.
Stay strong capi! 🙏🏽 @VirgilvDijk pic.twitter.com/LsEdAkADZO
