Injury Update

Klopp gives injury update on midfield duo for West Ham clash, Fabinho ruled out

Thiago Alcantara and Naby Keita will be monitored on their match fitness ahead of David Moyes’ West Ham United side making the visit to Anfield on Saturday as Premier League action returns for the defending champions following a mid-week victory in the Champions League.

According to reports from Klopp’s statements to Liverpoolfc.com, both midfielders could be in line to feature for the Reds in the weekend fixture at Anfield, despite a number of options being available to the Liverpool FC boss in the centre of the park. While Thiago had sustained a minor injury in the recent Merseyside derby, Keita had been on the sidelines following a positive test for COVID-19 while on international duty.

“Both are on a good way, that’s how it is with rehab or recovery. You saw the incident, how it happened, with Thiago so that obviously needs now a little bit of time to settle.

“Nobody can say exactly how long because nothing is ruptured and nothing is broken or stuff like this. He’s desperate to make the next steps.

“If he will be ready for tomorrow, we will see. Same with Naby, just a different kind of injury I would say.”

However, Klopp was defiant in his response on Fabinho’s availability for the upcoming Anfield showdown against the Hammers, with the Liverpool FC ruling out the 27-year old from playing on Saturday after the player had suffered a minor hamstring issue at the half-hour mark in Tuesday night’s game against Midtjylland.

“Fab is not in, that’s clear. He got a little injury and so he will be out for the weekend and probably slightly longer.

“That’s one thing, but all the others who are fit will be in contention, either on the pitch or on the bench and coming on.”

In Fabinho’s absence for the forthcoming fixtures, Klopp could be forced to call upon his youth squad members in the form of Rhys Williams and Sepp van der Berg to fill in at the centre-back spot alongside Joe Gomez.
