Injury Update

Kostas Tsimikas returns to training just ahead of Liverpool’s travels to Italy

As per a recent Tweet by prominent journalist James Pearce, Kostas Tsimikas is reported to have made a return to Liverpool FC training just prior to the Reds’ boarding the flight for Italy, with Atalanta awaiting a visit from the Merseyside giants in the Champions League.

The Greek left-back, who arrived at Anfield this summer, was Jurgen Klopp’s first signing ahead of the 2020-21 season but is yet to play a significant part for his new side as a spree of injury niggles has curtailed the 24-year-old’s time on the pitch.

Tsimikas’ latest injury was sustained in the EFL Cup tie against Lincoln City last month, and his return to training session would hand a major boost to Klopp and the injury-hindered squad of Liverpool FC, with Virgil van Dijk, Fabinho, Thiago Alcantara, and Oxlade Chamberlain currently on the sidelines.

Andy Roberton has played every minute of Premier League and Champions League football since the turn of the new season, and the return of Tsimikas will allow the tireless Scotsman to rest for the mid-week game against Atalanta, as the daunting challenge of Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City awaits the Reds on Saturday.
