Trent Alexander Arnold suffers calf injury blow ahead of international fixture list

Liverpool FC full-back Trent Alexander Arnold was forced off the pitch with a suspected calf injury at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday during the Reds holding out Manchester City for a 1-1 stalemate over the weekend and further scans will be done on his calf before coming to a more conclusive injury timeline.

James Milner came on for the youngster in the last third of the game as Jurgen Klopp’s men pushed for another goal to no avail, with one of the dullest attacking displays of this season having come to be witnessed at the Etihad.

Arnold’s calf problem would mean that the 22-year-old is certainly ruled out from England’s upcoming fixtures against Ireland, Belgium, and Iceland as football clubs take a break for the international break, as Jurgen Klopp confirmed the same in a statement to the club’s official website, liverpoolfc.com.

“Trent will be out for England, that is clear.

“What he has, we don’t know, but he cannot play for England. He will not be the last and not the only one who Gareth [Southgate] will miss for this international break.

“He will have a scan tomorrow and then we will see.”

The Liverpool FC boss would surely be hoping that the dynamic right-back makes a comeback to the first-team squad at Anfield as early as possible, with the Merseyside giants already having to deal with the long-term absence of defensive stars such as Virgil van Dijk and Fabinho.
