In a rare show of praise from an otherwise grumpy Roy Keane, the ex-Manchester United skipper and now a pundit for Sky Sports lauded Liverpool FC’s ‘title-winning worthy’ show in the 1-1 draw against Manchester City on Sunday.
The Reds got away with a very dull stalemate against Pep Guardiola’s side on their visit to the Etihad Stadium, with an early goal from Mohammad Salah from the spot being cancelled out by Gabriel Jesus’s solo brilliance in the first half itself.
Kevin de Bruyne’s missed attempt from the penalty spot meant that both teams shared points in their first meeting of the new season in the Premier League.
Despite a rather boring affair at the Etihad, Keane heaped praise upon the Champions of England, applauding the commitment shown by Jurgen Klopp’s men to grind out results in their favour in spite of recent injury setbacks to key first-team regulars.
“What I enjoyed most about Liverpool today, as well as their qualities that we know they have and the one or two injuries they have, I always look at teams who have won the league, they have that mindset, the body language, the desire,” said Keane, as quoted by the Daily Express.
“I see a lot of that in this Liverpool team and I still think that it’s going to take a lot to stop this team.
“I know they’re not at their very best, they’re grinding out results, but Jurgen Klopp, in his interview, he’s delighted and thinking that they still turned up here today, with their problems and one or two injuries, Trent getting injured, Milner comes in.
“That’s what winning championships is about, having setbacks, having disappointments but showing a really strong mentality and I saw that today.”
