Juventus leapfrog Liverpool in the race to sign the in-demand David Alaba

Juventus have leapt ahead in the race to sign Bayern Munich’s David Alaba, latest reports from the Daily Mail state. The Austrian international has been known to be wanting to leave the Bundesliga giants, with the likes of Liverpool, Manchester City, and Real Madrid all believed to be interested in signing the player.

The Reds are in dire need of centre-back options after a number of injury problems to Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, and Fabinho has left Jurgen Klopp with only Joel Matip as the fully fit central defender at Anfield.

Moreover, due to Matip himself being a very injury-prone player over the last few seasons, it is claimed that Klopp is on the hunt for more options to sign in the winter transfer window.

Alaba has not been able to reach upon a positive contractual negotiation with Bayern despite repeated attempts since last summer, and it looks if the 28-year-old defender is finally on the way out of Allianz Arena as early as the upcoming January.

Juventus do lead the widely contested race to sign the Austrian, but Liverpool FC remain very much in the mix to make a move for the player on a cut-price deal owing the injury-crisis being borne by the Merseyside giants of late.
