Injury fears rise as Jordan Henderson is withdrawn from England’s game at half-time

Gareth Southgate confirmed in his post-match talk following his England side succumbing to a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Belgium that Jordan Henderson had been withdrawn at half-time due to a slight bit of tightness in the Liverpool FC midfielder’s hamstring.

“Jordan had a bit of tightness at half time and felt he couldn’t carry on,” said the England boss.

“We’ll have to assess him when we get back.”

Liverpool FC fans worldwide will be hoping that the initial fears over Henderson’s hamstring issue turn out to be just a minor niggle, and the English midfield star is in full flow by the time this ongoing international break comes to an end.

With the Anfield giants playing hosts to table-toppers Leicester City this coming weekend, Henderson’s availability in the centre of the park for Jurgen Klopp’s side will be of much importance to the Merseyside Reds.

Liverpool FC are already without a number of first-team star regulars in their ranks for the forthcoming future, with Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, and Trent Alexander Arnold all long-term injury absentees.

However, summer signing Thiago Alcantara is expected to be back for his new side ahead of the Leicester fixture, having made just a handful of appearances following his highly-touted move to Anfield before a positive test for COVID-19 and an ankle injury curtailed his game-time.
