Reports from ESPN are suggesting that Liverpool FC are gearing up to offer as much as a 40% increase in wages to in-demand star midfielder Gini Wijnaldum, whose current deal with the Premier League champions expires next summer.
The Dutch international, a reported long-term target for FC Barcelona, has been eyed by Serie A giants Inter Milan as well of late, with the Italian side looking up the possibility of signing the Dutch international on a free transfer.
Wijnaldum has come of much importance to Jurgen Klopp’s side this ongoing season following injuries to first-team midfield regulars Naby Keita, Fabinho, and Thiago Alcantara. He has turned out in the central midfield on a number of occasions alongside skipper Jordan Henderson, garnering plaudits for his tireless efforts in the centre of the park.
However, with his deal getting set to expire within a very short period of time, Liverpool FC will be focusing efforts on tying the 29-year-old to a long-term deal beyond the summer of 2021.
A wage increase, as reports suggest, is likely to tempt the player on extending his stay at Anfield, despite him having snubbed talks of sealing an exit from Liverpool FC in a recent press interview.
