Convincing Napoli centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly to make the move to Anfield would not be a difficult task for Jurgen Klopp, according to ex-Liverpool FC and England star attacker John Barnes.
Liverpool FC’s recent injury crisis has left Klopp with only Joel Matip as the fully fit central defender in the senior squad, leading to subsequent first-team chances for both Rhys Williams and Nathan Phillips over the past few weeks.
However, despite the latter duo impressing in their limited game-time on the pitch, Liverpool FC fans have been clamouring for their side to add fresh blood in the upcoming winter transfer window to the defensive core of Klopp’s side.
Koulibaly is one name among a wide fold list that has been considered by the Reds ahead of January, and despite the Senegalese international’s rampant demand in the transfer market, John Barnes believes that the Napoli man will not snub potential interest from the Premier League holders.
“If Koulibaly comes, he’s a player that could play alongside Van Dijk when he returns so it would be easy to talk Koulibaly into joining Liverpool, unlike some other top players because he’s a person that if he comes would go straight into the first team and play every match,” said Barnes, as quoted by the Mirror.
“Aside from Koulibaly, I don’t think there’s anyone out there that Liverpool would look to get in January.”
Apart from the Napoli colossal defender, Brighton’s Ben White continues to be the primarily linked player to the Merseyside Reds following his breakthrough in the Seagulls first-team squad after last season’s brilliant loan spell at Leeds United.
