A new favourite amongst the Liverpool FC fanbase, courtesy of his brilliant form in front of the goal since his move to Anfield, Diogo Jota’s recent interview to The Athletic revealed that the 23-year-old was a big fan of Cristiano Ronaldo while growing up in Portugal.
Ronaldo, one of the biggest names in world football over the last decade, turned out in the Premier League for Liverpool FC’s arch-rivals Manchester United, before featuring for Real Madrid and Juventus, the latter being the 35-year-old’s current destination.
Jota, one of the best singings so far of this summer’s transfer window, has been fantastic for the Merseysiders on the pitch, nabbing nine goals in 15 outings.
The Portuguese international, who is now teammates with Ronaldo at the international level, revealed that the Juventus star’s displays at both Manchester United and subsequently Real Madrid made him a hero for Jota.
“Cristiano Ronaldo was my hero. At that time, he was 19 but he was already playing at the Euros with so much quality. During my childhood, he was at Manchester United and Real Madrid. As Portuguese guys, we always looked upon him as our main reference.”
Jota has been one of the most influential players in Klopp’s side this season, with the player being a threat for opposition defences every time he turns out in the frontline for the Anfield giants.
