As Liverpool FC attacking star Mohammad Salah became the Merseysiders’ highest-scoring player in the club’s Champions League history with his opener against Midtjylland on Wednesday, the Reds gaffer Jurgen Klopp was full of praise for his ‘exceptional’ forward talent in the his post-match remarks.
Salah broke club legend Steven Gerrard’s long-standing UCL record with the former scoring his 22nd European goal in the Liverpool FC colours, just four summers since he sealed the move to Anfield from Serie A outfit AS Roma.
As quoted by the Daily Mail, Klopp heaped praise on Salah’s goalscoring efforts, with the Liverpool FC boss expressing delight at the sheer number of records being broken by Salah in recent times while turning out for the Anfield giants.
‘It is one record after another, and I am pretty sure he is proud of that… he should be,’ said Klopp.
‘He’s an exceptional player, just an absolutely exceptional player and since we have been together a lot of things really clicked.
‘He appreciates the help of the team too. Even his incredible number of goals wouldn’t be enough alone for us to be successful.
‘But he is truly exceptional. Nobody doubted it, but if you need numbers to prove, he delivers that as well.’
The Egyptian international attacker remains Liverpool FC’s most potent threat going forward in spite of the recent heroics showcased by summer signing Diogo Jota, with the former’s nine Premier League goals this season putting him just third in the goalscoring charts behind the likes of Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Son Heung-Min.
