Liverpool close in on signing Celta Vigo defender Stefan Bajcetic

Liverpool FC are on verge of completing the signing of Celta Vigo central defender Stefan Bajcetic, however, could face a race against time to bring the youngster to Anfield owing to Brexit restrictions.

With the United Kingdom leaving the European Union on 1st January and post-Brexit rules stating that English clubs can not sign foreign players under the age of 18, Jurgen Klopp’s side have only a week to finalise the incoming of Bajcetic to Anfield from Spain.

Long-term injury layoffs for both Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez have left the Merseyside Reds extremely short on centre-back options in the senior squad, with Klopp having only Joel Matip as the sole fully fit option to field at the heart of the Liverpool FC backline.

Following recent reports of the Premier League holders signing the 15-year-old Calum Scanlon from Championship outfit Birmingham City, Bajcetic’s addition to Liverpool FC indicates the Merseysiders’ focus on bringing quality young talent to Anfield and warding off potential competition from rival clubs in the process.

Reports from the Express claim that Manchester United had registered their interest in making a move for the Celta Vigo starlet but the Reds have leapt ahead of their top-flight foes to inch closer in completing the deal for Bajcetic.
