Liverpool target Perr Schuurs rubbishes claims linking him with a move to Anfield

In what would come as a major blow to Liverpool FC’s hopes of landing a prized centre-back signing in January, Ajax starlet Perr Schuurs has committed his long-term future towards the Dutch powerhouses amid reports linking the youngster with a move to the defending Premier League champions.

Jurgen Klopp has been tipped to add a new central defender to the first-team ranks at Anfield in light of both Joe Gomez and Virgil van Dijk not expected to feature for the Reds again this season owing to long-term injury layoffs.

Schuur’s breakthrough at Ajax has meant that the 20-year-old is now a regular for Erik ten Hag’s side across both domestic as well as continental football, which has made many top sides across Europe wanting to make a move for the highly-promising Dutchman.

However, in a recent interview, as reported by the Liverpool Echo, Schuurs voiced his desire of staying put at Ajax having cemented his spot as the first-choice central defender in Ten Hag’s outfit, putting an end to speculation surrounding Liverpool FC’s keen desire to bring the in-demand star to Anfield.

“I am now a starting player which was my goal beforehand. I am very happy about that. I feel at home here.

“I’m not really in favour of going abroad early. I feel at home here so I want to play here for a few more seasons.

“It is not always fun to read [criticism]. You know when you play at Ajax that you are under a magnifying glass. But if you come out well, you will only be appreciated more.”
