Ex-Leeds United forward Noel Whelan has called upon Marcelo Bielsa to add attacking reinforcements at Elland Road in the form of Liverpool FC first-team outcast Divock Origi.
The Belgian international striker has clocked just seven minutes of Premier League football since the turn of the season, with all three of his appearances in league football coming off the bench.
Diogo Jota’s big-money move to Anfield this summer has meant that the ex-Wolves star and Japan international Takumi Minamino remain Jurgen Klopp’s go-to squad rotation options for the Liverpool FC frontline, leaving Origi on the fringes of the first-team ranks at the Premier League holders.
According to reports from the Express, Whelan has urged Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa to ponder over a move for Origi in order to provide some much-needed cover for first-choice striker Patrick Bamford.
“I would like to see Leeds show a bit of intent in the January market and go and sign a striker who has experience in the Premier League,” said Whelan.
“We need a player that will be complimentary to the side and Origi is the perfect fit.
“He comes from great stock at Liverpool. He likes to run in behind, he is a powerhouse, has pace, strength and aerial ability. We attack predominantly down those wide areas so he is ticking a lot of boxes for me.
“We only have one out and out striker in Patrick Bamford. God forbid he suffers an injury this season because then we are left very, very bare up top.
Origi’s future in the Liverpool FC colours beyond the upcoming January transfer window remains highly uncertain as Wolves are believed to be weighing up a potential move for the Belgian attacker following reports of Jurgen Klopp giving his seal of approval to offload Origi next month.
