Liverpool reportedly commence talks with Lille over Sven Botman transfer

Liverpool FC harbour hopes of lining up a bid for the highly-rated Sven Botman amid reports of the Merseyside outfit having opened talks with Ligue 1 side Lille as the transfer window commenced on January 1.

Joel Matip’s latest injury setback has sidelined the Cameroonian centre-back for up to three weeks, Liverpool FC boss Jurgen Klopp confirmed following his side’s 0-0 stalemate at St. James’ Park on Wednesday evening.

With Klopp left with no senior centre-back options at Anfield, the gaffer has been left with no choice other than to go into the transfer market for additional reinforcements, Botman looking the likely target after the Dutchman’s impressive breakthrough in Lille’s first-team ranks.

According to the Express, Botman has established himself to a regular starter in the French club’s squad just months after moving to Lille from Ajax, and Klopp is convinced of the youngster’s ability to draft him in his first-choice XI.

Speculation of Lille’s financial troubles could be a turning factor in Liverpool FC’s keen desire to make a move for Botman as the Merseysiders seek immediate arrivals to shore up an injury-depleted defensive core.
