Liverpool soften stance on parting ways with Xherdan Shaqiri in January

Xherdan Shaqiri may not take the exit door out of Anfield this January in light of Diogo Jota’s long-term injury layoff, reports from the Daily Star suggest.

Jota’s knee injury, which came early on in his new beginnings in the Liverpool FC colours, has sidelined the in-form Liverpool FC man until February from first-team outings for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

As a result, the Merseyside giants may choose to relent on their speculated desire to offload Shaqiri in the ongoing January transfer window following the Swiss international attacker having fallen down the pecking order at the club.

Shaqiri featured for the first time in seven weeks for the Premier League holders during Wednesday evening’s goalless stalemate at St. James’ Park as the former Bayern Munich man came off the bench in the dying moments of the game to help his team seek a winning goal to clinch all three points from their midweek meeting.

Plans of parting ways with the 29-year-old Shaqiri seem to have hit a roadblock for now, with Jurgen Klopp hoping that his one-time super-sub plays his part in ensuring a second successive top-flight title for the Reds.
