Liverpool’s chances of signing David Alaba nullified by former Red Dietmar Hamann

David Alaba remains eager on sealing a move to Spain to play for Real Madrid rather than turn out in English top-flight football for Jurgen Klopp’s side, reckons ex-Liverpool FC star Dietmar Hamann.

Alaba, whose deal with Bayern Munich runs out in less than six months, had been tipped to be on the transfer radar of the Merseyside giants heading into the January transfer window, but recent reports had suggested that Real Madrid led the line to land Alaba’s signature come next summer.

According to the Express, Hamann voiced his uncertainty over Liverpool FC’s speculated interest in making a move for the Austrian international in light of the ever-increasing injury troubles affecting the Premier League holders’ defensive core.

“I think [Alaba’s] preferred destination was always Spain,” Hamann said.

“I’m not sure if he wants to go to the Premier League and come to Liverpool.

“The fact that Liverpool are interested is not a surprise because Alaba has probably been one of the best centre-backs – after Virgil van Dijk – for the last 12-18 months.

“But I just don’t see Bayern Munich letting him go in January.”

With the winter transfer window’s commencement on the turn of the new year, Jurgen Klopp’s side have been urged by many, with club legend Jamie Carragher amongst the staunchest of supporters, to dip into the market for additional options at the back as injuries to Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip leaves Klopp with extremely limited alternatives to turn to midway into the campaign.
