Former Liverpool employee Don Hutchinson has come out with scathing criticism for Reds star man Mohammad Salah in light of the Egyptian international’s poor showings in front of the goal following recent speculation of him seeking an exit from Anfield in the near future.
Salah has endured a rare barren run upfront for Jurgen Klopp’s side as the Merseysiders dropped valuable points in two successive league outing, a 1-1 draw at home to West Brom was followed up with an equally frustrating evening at St. James’ Park in a goalless stalemate against Steve Bruce’s Newcastle United.
The 28-year-old former AS Roma forward leads the goalscoring charts in English top-flight football this season with 13 goals to his name, however, Salah’s recent misfiring showings invited criticism from Don Hutchinson, with the ex-Red suggesting that rumours of FC Barcelona and Real Madrid wanting to make a move for Salah could be affecting his downward spiral in form of late, according to reports from the Mirror.
“I think he is world class. But he frustrates you when you watch him play, and not just with his finishing.
“It’s the simple things, he doesn’t complete a 10-yard pass, he seems a bit sloppy, bit casual.
“Sometimes he upsets the flow of Liverpool. He can give a ball away and Liverpool have to start again.
“Maybe the noises of Real and Barca may have affected him a little – but he seems off it.”
Talks of the Spanish outfits circling around Salah’s signature started doing the rounds in the aftermath of the Egyptian international refusing to commit his long-term future at Anfield even as Jurgen Klopp’s side attempt to tie down Salah to an improved deal heading into the January transfer window.
