Trent Alexander-Arnold’s drop off in recent weeks for Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool has been lambasted by club legend Steve Nicol as the Merseyside Reds endure an uninspiring run of form over the last couple of weeks.
Klopp’s side have failed to win any of their last three games in top-flight football and a 1-0 defeat to Southampton last Monday handed Manchester United a clear opportunity to go three points clear at the top of the Premier League table should they emerge victorious in their game in hand.
Arnold’s misfiring displays as a first-team regular for the Anfield giants was pointed out by Nicol, with the latter insisting that the England international defender needs to step up his game massively in order to help his side return to winning ways, according to reports from the Express.
“I think he definitely has to improve defensively, no question.
“I think going forward, recent games, it’s been difficult for him.
“He normally has space to put the ball in but because of the way the opposition has played he’s put the ball into a box that’s full of, what, two teams basically, you’re talking 14 players.
“That makes it tough for him going forward. No question defensively, he has to improve a tonne.”
Liverpool FC’s latest outing on the pitch, a 4-1 win over a much-inexperienced bunch of Aston Villa youth players, in the third-round fixture of the FA Cup had witnessed Arnold on the bench as Neco Williams slotted in at right-back for the Friday night cup tie at Villa Park.
