Gini Wijnaldums admits winning the FA Cup is a priority for Liverpool this season

Liverpool FC would be gunning for FA Cup glory this season, with the domestic cup competition being one of the very few trophies that has eluded Jurgen Klopp since his appointment to the top job at Anfield, said the Merseyside Reds star Gini Wijnaldum.

A third-round fixture at Villa Park on Friday night witnessed Klopp’s men ease past an inexperienced Aston Villa side as a brace from Sadio Mane was complemented with goals apiece from Mohammad Salah and Wijnaldum to book Liverpool FC’s slot in the fourth round of the tournament.

Speaking to the club’s official website in the aftermath of the game, Wijnaldum admitted that on the back of what was a convincing showing against the Midlands-based outfit, the Reds will be hoping to progress further into the FA Cup, harbouring hopes of lifting the elite trophy.

“We said at the beginning of the season that we wanted to play for everything,” said the Dutchman.

“Of course it’s difficult to play everything with your strongest team because during the season you play so many games, especially now, and you have to rotate a lot.

“But I think we did well (against Villa) and hopefully we can do well in the next round because this is a competition we also want to win. We have won a lot but the FA Cup we haven’t won, so we want to do it.”

The Anfield outfit would be looking forward to Premier League action next following their win over Villa, with their lead at the top of the table having been matched by arch-rivals Manchester United.
