Liverpool FC old boy Robbie Fowler reckons that his former side would be under pressure ahead of Manchester United’s visit to Anfield for Sunday’s high-billed matchup in the Premier League.
Jurgen Klopp’s men have not hit the ground running of late, with the Merseysiders enduring a three-game winless streak in league action and last week’s 1-0 defeat away at Southampton meant that Ole Gunnar Solskajer’s Manchester United were able to overtake their arch-rivals in the league table thanks to a win over Burnley.
Heading into Sunday’s showdown at Anfield, the Reds are lagging three points behind the Old Trafford outfit and Fowler says that Klopp’s men will have to turn up on their best form to avoid going further behind in the title race for the top-flight crown.
‘It is massively important, certainly for Liverpool now because obviously they find themselves behind in the table, and they don’t want to get further behind,’ said Fowler, as quoted by the Daily Mail.
‘I think they’ll go into this game quietly confident. They’re not playing unbelievable stuff at the minute, but they are there or thereabout and knowing that if they do get this right result then it puts them in such a good space and ready to go on from there.
‘It’s a huge game. It’s probably bigger for Liverpool because of the situation the clubs find themselves in. I’m a Liverpool man, so Liverpool are going to win the game.
‘When you win these games it can make your whole week.’
Manchester United’s upsurge in recent weeks across Premier League outings gives out quite contrasting vibes to Liverpool FC’s woeful form of late and Sunday’s game at Anfield could well prove to be a vital turning point in the contest to achieve title-winning glory.
