Jordan Henderson’s absence in the Burnley clash explained by Klopp

Jordan Henderson’s absence from the matchday squad for Liverpool FC during Thursday night’s defeat to Burnley came as a surprise to many as the skipper’s name had surfaced on the team sheet week in and week out.

However, Jurgen Klopp explained in the aftermath of the midweek Anfield showdown that the 30-year-old midfielder was missing from the XI due to a minor muscle strain, according to reports from the Liverpool Echo.

“Hendo felt a little bit,” said Klopp.

“It is not serious but he couldn’t make it for tonight.”

Joel Matip returned to the four-man defence for Liverpool FC last time around as Henderson went missing owing to injury concerns, with the former partnering Fabinho at centre-back.

Henderson has often been utilised at the back in recent weeks by Jurgen Klopp as the Merseysiders deal with recurring troubles on the injury front to key first-team regulars at Anfield amid speculation that suggests that the Premier League holders may deter from splashing the cash on additional reinforcements this January window.
