Xherdan Shaqiri rejects transfer offer from Hertha Berlin

Liverpool FC fringe first-teamer Xherdan Shaqiri has snubbed interest from German outfit Hertha Berlin in spite of his largely limited role in Jurgen Klopp’s side since the last couple of seasons.

According to reports from the Express, Shaqiri has chosen not to secure a move to Michael Preetz’s side over the course of this ongoing transfer window, with the club finding themselves entangled in a relegation battle at the foot of the Bundesliga table.

Shaqiri’s involvement at Anfield has seen a turn for the best in recent weeks as the Swiss international has featured in a more prominent manner since the turn of the year and was recently handed back-to-back starts by Klopp, the latter of which came in the goalless stalemate against Manchester United in top-flight action.

The 28-year-old’s decision to stay put on Merseyside is likely to be factored by the injury crisis currently underway at Anfield forcing Jurgen Klopp to field his holding midfield options of Jordan Henderson and Fabinho at centre-back, which in turn has opened up a first-team role in the centre of the park for the ex-Stoke City man.

Reports earlier this year had suggested that Diogo Jota’s prolonged injury had cast away Liverpool FC’s initial plans of offloading Shaqiri as the likes of Roberto Firmino and Takumi Minamino endure a dry spell in front of the goal.
