Jurgen Klopp played down fears of the extent of Fabinho’s injury concerns in the aftermath of the Brazillian midfielder’s absence from the Liverpool FC matchday squad that made the trip to the Tottenham Hotspurs Stadium on Thursday.
Fabinho has operated in the heart of the defence for the Merseysiders for the better part of the ongoing campaign owing to season-ending injury layoffs for both Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip, coupled with recurring niggles for Joel Matip.
However, the 26-year-old’s exclusion from the starting line-up set alarm bells ringing amongst the Liverpool FC fanbase as the talk was rife over the player’s long-term sideline, which was swiftly downplayed by Jurgen Klopp while speaking to the Merseyside club’s official website.
“It was nothing really. He just felt something and we had to take him out. And now he’s out.
“It was not a challenge or whatever, it was not intense situations. It was just how things happen.”
The 3-1 win over Spurs for Klopp’s side meant that the Premier League holders returned to much-needed winning ways after a five-game winless run in top-flight action but Joel Matip’s withdrawal off the pitch at half-time is sure to worry the Anfield outfit as Klopp confirmed the injury-prone Cameroonian defender to have sustained an ankle injury.
