Liverpool forward Takumi Minamino signs for Southampton on loan

Takumi Minamino has joined Southampton in a loan deal until the end of the 2020-21 top-flight campaign, according to reports from Liverpool FC’s official website.

The Japan international had largely served as a fringe first-teamer within Jurgen Klopp’s side at Anfield since his move to Merseyside from RB Salzburg a winter ago.

First-team involvement had been hard to come by for the 25-year-old Minamino in recent times and the move to the Saints could provide him with some much-needed game-time in Premier League football.

The presence of the famed trio of Firmino, Mane and Salah, coupled with the arrival of Diogo Jota last summer, had diminished Minamino’s chances on the pitch in domestic football as the forward struggled to replicate his Salzburg form whilst turning out for the Reds.

Minamino’s departure from Anfield on loan was cleared through on deadline day, with Jurgen Klopp’s side recording substantial business in the final hours of the January transfer window amid the incomings of the defensive duo of Ben Davies and Ozan Kabak.
