Liverpool tried to make an approach for FC Barcelona’s Samuel Umtiti

Latest reports from The Athletic claim that Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool FC had pondered over a last-minute move for FC Barcelona first-team outcast Samuel Umtiti.

The France international, however, was not willing to head out of Camp Nou midway through the season and such a turn of events prompted the Merseyside Reds to look elsewhere in the transfer market.

Umtiti had been earlier reported to be on the radar of the Premier League holders as long-term injuries to the first-choice pairing of Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez meant that Jurgen Klopp had a lack of senior options to choose from to slot in at the heart of the Liverpool FC backline.

The arrivals of Ozan Kabak from Schalke on an initial short-term loan agreement and the purchase of Preston North End first-teamer Ben Davies came as major reinforcements for Klopp and Co. on deadline-day of the January transfer window.

Both the new Anfield faces are tipped to play somewhat of a crucial role for the injury-hit Liverpool FC side in the remainder of the season as Klopp’s men face a downward spiral of form in domestic football.
