Liverpool urged to pursue moves for top forwards across Europe by Stan Collymore

Former Liverpool FC man Stan Collymore has called upon his old club to keep tabs on top attacking talents across Europe heading into the summer to revitalise a misfiring frontline.

Jurgen Klopp’s star-studded side have struggled in their attacking endeavours since the turn of the campaign and the famed trio of Mohammad Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino have failed to hit the ground running due to a major uncharacteristic drop in their usual standards when in front of the goal.

Trailing the runaway leaders Manchester City by as many as 10 points after Sunday’s defeat, the Merseyside Reds look all set to relinquish their top-flight crown come the end of the season, prompting former Liverpool FC striker Collymore to urge Jurgen Klopp on setting his sights on capturing a big-name proven goal scorer in the summer window.

Tottenham Hotspurs skipper Harry Kane and Borussia Dortmund talisman Erling Haaland were two such names touted by Collymore while speaking to the Daily Mirror.

“You have to look at these things over four or five years and Liverpool will still be in the title talk in each of them.”

“That said, they do need to wake up and smell the coffee, which means owners FSG spending money to go toe-to-toe with City in that period.

“It means that if City go out and buy Erling Haaland this summer, then Liverpool must buy the next Robert Lewandowski or even put in a bid for Harry Kane.

“What they can’t do is just say, ‘We have a really good XI, some youngsters coming through, and we can maintain our challenges that way’, because there are too many other teams with the money to make sure that won’t be the case.”

Roberto Firimino’s barren run of goal involvement for the Reds since the backend of the last top-flight campaign is likely to lure Klopp into seeking additional reinforcements, speculation suggests, as the Liverpool FC gaffer awaits further news on the much-anticipated return of star forward Diogo Jota from a long-term knee injury.
