Players are to blame for recent results, affirms Liverpool skipper Jordan Henderson

Liverpool FC players are to blame for the club’s recent shocking form in domestic football, says skipper Jordan Henderson.

The 30-year-old midfielder was present alongside boss Jurgen Klopp for the pre-match press conference ahead of the Last-16 UEFA Champions League tie against Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig and when quizzed upon his team’s torrid run of form, Henderson came to Klopp’s defence.

He insisted that it was the playing squad who bore the brunt of the results recorded of late by the Premier League holders and that the players were motivated to perform much better when stepping out on the Puskas Arena pitch on Tuesday night.

“The manager is really good in situations like this. In adversity the manager is the one we listen to the most,” Henderson said in his pre-match statements.

“He is always there for us as players; he tries to protect us as much as possible.

“But deep down we know as players we take full responsibility and it’s down to us to go out on the pitch and change this tough period that we are going through.

“There is no question marks about how the manager reacts after games. He reacts in the total opposite people might think and handles situations like that very well.

“And that’s why we want to go out there and put on a performance, not just for the team, but for him as well.”

Henderson has been one of the very few men in the Liverpool FC colours who have emerged as a shining light amid what has been a barren run of displays showcased by the Merseysiders since the turn of the year.

The Reds skipper’s performances have garnered acclaim despite having been forced to shift to a centre-back role after injuries to defensive regulars at Klopp’s disposal.
