Jamie Carragher pinpoints major fault in Liverpool’s game post Everton loss

Liverpool FC old boy Jamie Carragher believes that Jurgen Klopp’s under-fire outfit no longer possess their previous goalscoring instincts following the defending champions suffering a fourth successive loss in top-flight outings.

The Merseysiders were handed a 2-0 defeat by city foes Everton on the latter’s visit to Anfield and despite controlling a lion’s share of the possession, Klopp’s side lacked the cutting edge when in the final third of the pitch.

A host of chances fell the path of Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Mohammad Salah but the famed Reds trio were unable to get the better of a tough-looking Everton backline and the Toffees No.1 Jordan Pickford, with the latter being in terrific form while manning the goalposts for Carlo Ancelotti’s high-flying side.

According to reports from the Mirror, Carragher expressed concerns over what has become a stale run of attacking displays put out by Liverpool FC while admitting that his old club had become bereft of causing trouble to opposition defences when going forward.

“Going forward is as big a problem as what we’re seeing defensively from Liverpool now,” said Carragher.

“I know they have dominated possession but it doesn’t mean anything if you don’t create. Very rarely do you see Liverpool play now when you expect them to score.”

In his own post-match assessment, Jurgen Klopp bemoaned his side’s wastefulness in front of goal.

The defeat to Everton on Saturday meant that the Premier League holders had found the back of the net just twice across their previous four outings in domestic football.
