Takumi Minamino is reportedly being considered as a makeweight option by Liverpool FC to secure the much-coveted signing of Sevilla star attacker Lucas Ocampos.
Ocampos has emerged on the radar of Jurgen Klopp’s side for the summer transfer window and the Argentine international’s £56 million release clause is understood to have made the Merseysiders a bit reluctant to shell out the full fee.
Minamino’s departure from Anfield in a loan deal on deadline-day for Southampton has led to the Japan international featuring in a regular manner for the Saints besides finding the back of the net on two separate occasions, most recently in the 1-1 draw against Chelsea.
The 26-year-old attacker is not seen as a long-term fixture in the Liverpool FC colours come to the end of this season, making him likely to be used by Klopp as a part of the offer tabled in front of Sevilla for their star man, claims reports from the Express.
A number of fringe forward options are rumoured to be close to the exit door at Anfield such as Divock Origi and Xherdan Shaqiri, both of whom have failed to make the most of their recent first-team involvement.
