Liverpool FC look certain to miss out on a top-four finish in the Premier League based on their recent slump of form, says ex-Red Danny Murphy.
Jurgen Klopp’s men suffered their fourth straight defeat in top-flight action following Everton walking away with their first victory on Anfield turf in 22 years last Saturday, leaving the defending champions five points adrift of the Champions League spots in the standings.
And former Anfield man Murphy is concerned over the misery endured by the Premier League holders of late, with the BBC pundit insisting that Jurgen Klopp’s embattled outfit face a tough battle at hand to secure a top-four finish in light of their recent showings.
“Confidence is low,” Murphy said, as quoted by the Mirror.
“I think the strength and depth question mark is now there compared to someone like (Manchester) City, even probably the likes of Chelsea and (Manchester) United in terms of squad depth.
“They’ve not had these problems in the previous years – in their successful period – so it’s something the hierarchy will maybe have to look at.
The Reds are in for a mixed run of fixtures in Premier League action over the next couple of weeks as a trip to Bramall Lane next Saturday will be followed up by clashes with Chelsea and Wolves.
