Liverpool FC are on the verge of finalising their first transfer of this summer window in the form of RB Leipzig’s Ibrahima Konate with the Frenchman reportedly having undergone medical examinations ahead of a proposed move to Merseyside as per reports from RMC Sport.
Jurgen Klopp’s side had leapfrogged over other interested parties in Konate’s signature in the last few days amid reports of the Anfield giants choosing to trigger Konate’s €40m release clause.
The need for additional defensive options at the club has been well-documented over the course of this season following Liverpool FC losing their first-team regulars Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip to season-long injury layoffs.
And despite Klopp bringing in Ozan Kabak and Ben Davies on deadline-day in the January transfer window earlier this year, it is believed that the Reds gaffer was keen on adding another fresh face to his squad with Konate fitting the bill for Klopp’s preferred signing.
The France U21 international in spite of a spree of injury troubles has been a major asset at the back for RB Leipzig since making his debut in 2017 and was eyed by a host of top sides across Europe heading into the summer.
