Liverpool on the verge of concluding cut-price deal for Ibrahima Konate

Liverpool FC remain in line to finalise their prolonged transfer approach for RB Leipzig’s Ibrahima Konate with reports from German publication BILD claiming that the Reds could sign the Frenchman for as little as £28 million.

Jurgen Klopp’s side had made a major breakthrough in the backend of last month in the talks to land Konate’s signature ahead of this summer despite interest in the France international from the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea.

The 21-year-old Konate has been impressive for RB Leipzig over the past couple of seasons and his imminent move to English top-flight football is seen by many as a reward for his well-documented talents at a tender age.

Klopp’s insistence on fortifying his defensive core at Anfield in spite of bringing in Ozan Kabak and Ben Davies in the January window was key to the Reds gaffer targeting Konate.

With Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez facing a long road to full recovery from their respective season-ending injury layoffs, Konate’s arrival on Merseyside could mean a first-team regular role for the Bundesliga defensive prodigy.
