Arsenal legend Ian Wright believes Liverpool FC have it in themselves to secure the result in their favour when they take on arch-rivals Manchester United on Sunday at Old Trafford.
The weekend fixture is a must-win game for Jurgen Klopp’s Merseysiders who have seen their top-four hopes suffer a collapse in recent weeks after two wasteful draws on the run against Leeds United and Newcastle United.
Speaking on The Kelly and Wright Show, the ex-England international forward voiced his support in the Reds clinching the win over Ole Gunnar Solskajer’s Manchester United who have been upbeat in their recent form.
“Even though you’d have to say Manchester United are going to make the Champions League, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer needs to win a trophy,” he said.
“I think that’s going to be in the forefront of his mind so I’m going with Liverpool. I think it’s vitally important for Liverpool to win the game because they need to get themselves back in the Champions League race.
“It’s good there’s so much on this game because there’s been a few draws recently and sometimes it hasn’t lived up to the hype. I think this one has got the potential to be very good.”
Klopp’s men have to play for in what remains of their title-defence campaign which has proven to be uninspiring on all accounts as they languish in the sixth spot in the standings after last season’s title-winning heroics.
Injuries to star first-team regulars coupled with misfiring performances in the early part of this year has helped the likes of Chelsea and West Ham to race past Liverpool FC in the quest to secure Champions League qualification.
