Uncertainty over Takumi Minamino’s future but player is open to return to the Saints

Takumi Minamino is willing to return to Saint Mary’s this summer after spending the second half of the 2020-21 season on loan at Southampton where he got an extended run of first-team involvement for Ralph Hasenhüttl’s side.

The Japan international left the Reds in the January window after seeing his playing opportunities dwindle following Jurgen Klopp acquiring Diogo Jota from Wolves the previous summer to go along with the likes of Firmino, Mane and Salah.

Minamino turned out in ten league outings for Southampton and scored twice but established himself to be an influential presence on the pitch, leading to talk that the Saints will be in the mix to make a permanent swoop for him this summer, according to reports from HampshireLive.

There is no clarity over Liverpool wanting to part ways with their player ahead of the next season but with Klopp wanting to bring in new signings on Merseyside, it is understood that the Reds boss will need to offload deadwood to raise funds.

Divock Origi is another fringe name in the Anfield fold who is likely to take the exit door in light of his demotion in the pecking order as Liverpool demand £20 million for the Belgian striker.
