Liverpool’s chances of landing Kylian Mbappe played down by Fabrizio Romano

Kylian Mbappe is not arriving anytime soon on Merseyside to sign for long-term suitors Liverpool, claims the eminent journalist Fabrizio Romano in his The Here We Go Podcast, with Mbappe set for a contract extension at Paris Saint-Germain.

The World Cup-winning forward’s deal with the Ligue 1 giants comes to a close next summer and as the Reds and Real Madrid engage in a battle to land the player’s signature, Romano’s recent comments are bound to cause a major blow to Liverpool fans’ hopes of seeing Mbappe don the Reds shirt.

Jurgen Klopp is understood to be a long-term admirer of the Frenchman’s talent and was rumoured to be considering a big-money approach for the PSG superstar but with Mbappe’s €160 valuation, Liverpool will find it quite difficult to conduct business in the ongoing summer transfer window where they are to proceed with limited funds at their disposal.

With Real Madrid too unlikely to make major moves in the transfer window this time around, it seems certain that the 22-year-old Mbappe will be signing on extended terms with PSG ahead of the start of the 2021-22 season.

What these developments mean for Liverpool remains to be seen as Jurgen Klopp remains on the hunt for attacking options to add to his Anfield fold in the summer besides finding a suitable replacement for Gini Wijnaldum.
