Eminent journalist Paul Gorst reckons the Sadio Mane-Roberto Firmino pairing will stay put on Merseyside beyond this summer’s transfer window despite speculation over their long-term futures.
Both star forwards endured somewhat of a dismal campaign by their standards last time around with Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool side regaining their composure towards the finish line of the season to ensure a top-four finish.
With Firmino linked with a move to La Liga champions Atletico Madrid and talk of Mane being a target for the likes of Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid, the Liverpool fanbase has been divided over witnessing their favourites call it quits at Anfield this summer.
Gorst, however, feels that neither player is expected to head out the exit door but he does back Jurgen Klopp to use the ongoing transfer window to bring in another attacking name to bolster his options.
“No, Liverpool won’t be getting rid of either,” the journalist said to The Echo.
“I think Mane will be transformed by the return of fans as it goes.
“Firmino I am less convinced by, long term, but if they do bring in another attacker, which I expect them to, it will be to give the team more competition for places not to replace an outgoing player such as Mane or Firmino.”
