Liverpool fall behind FC Barcelona in pursuit of Italy international Lorenzo Pellegrini

La Liga heavyweights FC Barcelona have taken the lead in the three-horse race for AS Roma midfield man Lorenzo Pellegrini who is touted to be a major name doing the rounds in this summer’s transfer window.

Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool have a strong interest in signing the Italy international who has emerged as one of the standout stars in the Serie A this past season and joining the Reds in the fray for the player are the champions of Spain Atletico Madrid.

However, according to reports from Mundo Deportivo, FC Barcelona have now come out as frontrunners with the Catalan outfit already making an approach for the Roma midfielder.

The departure of Gini Wijnaldum from Anfield has opened up a spot in the centre of the park for the Merseysiders and it is understood that Klopp is on the lookout for a viable name to fill that void.

For FC Barcelona, it was a last-minute heartbreak in their prolonged pursuit of Wijnaldum who ended up choosing Paris Saint-Germain as his next destination and has now signed a three-year-long deal with them after snubbing the approach from Spain.
