Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool have gained ground in their attempts to walk away with the coveted signing of Lille’s midfield maestro Renato Sanches with FC Barcelona suffering a setback in their pursuit of the player this summer.
Sanches has been heavily backed to call it quits at the Ligue 1 champions ahead of the start of the new season with interest high in landing his signature from both Liverpool and Barcelona.
Gini Wijnaldum’s departure has left Klopp one important man short in his midfield department and the Liverpool boss has been urged to dip into the transfer market to bring in fresh blood for the Merseysiders prior to the 2021-22 Premier League campaign kicking off next month.
Reports from French news outlet Le10Sport claim that Lille’s demands of being paid €35 million will not sit well with the FC Barcelona board who are steering the club through a very difficult period on the financial front which has forced them to list first-team players and work hard to reduce the wage bill.
Liverpool now seems to be the strong favourites to sign Sanches with Jurgen Klopp having only FC Barcelona as his competition for the battle to lure the Portugal international who was one of the best performers at the Euros for his country.
