The Sky Sports pundit pairing of Gary Neville and Graeme Souness believe Liverpool are in the mix for the Premier League crown this season but should prioritise signing a new midfield player.
Liverpool’s options in the centre of the park have depleted this summer with the long-serving Gini Wijnaldum calling it quits at Anfield to seal his move to Paris Saint-Germain.
Jurgen Klopp is yet to find the Dutchman’s replacement from the transfer market despite a host of top names being linked with a move to the Merseyside giants before the window’s deadline later this month.
According to reports from The Echo, Former Anfield hero Souness while admitting that Liverpool have what it takes to reclaim their lost Premier League glory will have to bring in a fresh face for their midfield department this summer.

“I think it was very easy to look at Liverpool and talk about their front three and say how special they were but I think a lot of their great play came from the three midfield players.
“[Gini] Wijnaldum’s gone, [Jordan] Henderson’s a year older, James Milner’s a year older.
“I know they’ve got some good kids coming through. I saw them against Osasuna on Monday night, I was up there watching that game.
“I’d like to see something else in midfield. It’s going to be a long hard season.”
Neville added to his fellow pundit’s opinion with the ex-United defender claiming that Liverpool should not be judged by last season’s timid title-defence but should focus on adding to thier midfield strength by signing a new player.
“I honestly can’t separate them. I mean you should say Liverpool because of what’s happened in the last few years and last season was a major blip for them”, he admitted.
“Van Dijk [is] back – but I think Manchester United will be an improvement on last season. I do think Liverpool will miss Wijnaldum and do need a midfield player.”
