Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has ruled out his Brazilian star striker Roberto Firmino for the game against Crystal Palace at Anfield over the upcoming weekend.
Firmino has been missing in action since being withdrawn before the half-time break during the 1-1 stalemate against Chelsea just prior to the international break.
Klopp confirms Firmino’s absence for the upcoming fixture
The 29-year-old Brazil international, who has endured a patchy run of form in recent times for Liverpool, is yet to return to team training, according to Jurgen Klopp in his pre-match presser.
Klopp, however, sounded out some respite on Firmino’s injury troubles by revealing that the player was in line for a return to the first-team fold next week as he will have to work his way to full fitness.
“He’s not ready. Bobby didn’t even start training with the team.
“It will happen at some point next week, he will be back in training and then we will see.”
Sadio Mane likely to earn a recall back into the starting XI
Mane had been benched for the 3-2 win over AC Milan in the midweek contest at Anfield in a decision which had surprised many considering Klopp’s lack of options in the attacking department to deputise for the Senegalese.
Divock Origi had provided cover for Mane on the flank but the latter will be in line to be included on the starting teamsheet for Liverpool come Saturday alongside his usual strike partners Diogo Jota and Mohamed Salah.
