Liverpool are understood to be keeping tabs on Real Madrid outcast Marco Asensio who faces an uncertain future with the La Liga giants after his fall down the pecking order.
The Spain international has been backed to call it quits in the forthcoming January transfer window and speculation is rife that Jurgen Klopp will be monitoring Asensio’s situation with great interest.
Klopp had been in the transfer market this summer for attacking reinforcements but decided against bringing in a fresh face as the Reds boss had to deal with constraints on the financial front.
Reports from The Daily Mail, however, have now suggested Liverpool will be amongst the favourites for Asensio’s signature in January with the 25-year-old Real Madrid playmaker likely to leave Carlo Ancelotti’s Santiago Bernabéu camp in some much-needed search of regular first-team football elsewhere.
Liverpool are not the only side from England’s top fligth who are credited with an interest in Asensio with North London giants Arsenal also rumoured to be in the fray as the player’s deal with Madrid runs out in less than 24 months.
