Liverpool in for major setback on the Nicolo Barella transfer front

Liverpool are reportedly in for a major setback on the Nicolo Barella transfer front with the midfielder set to extend his stay with Inter Milan by penning a new long-term deal.

The Italy international had emerged on the transfer radar at Anfield on the back of his pivotal run of form for both club and country over the past year which made him an in-demand name in the transfer market.

With the Reds on the hunt for midfield reinforcements this summer after Gini Wijnaldum’s exit, Barella was rumoured to be one of the names shortlisted by the boss Jurgen Klopp ahead of the forthcoming transfer windows.

Barella, however, is now in line to put to paper on extended terms at San Siro with the Italian outfit Inter Milan, according to Fabrizio Romano, who adds that Liverpool’s interest in the player never came down to opening talks.

Inter CEO Beppe Marotta has sounded out admission that the club are pushing for their prized midfield talent to sign the new deal and commit his future to the Inter Milan colours.
