MATCH PROCEEDINGS
The hosts took the lead inside the opening four minutes with a rare lapse of judgement from Liverpool No.1 Alisson Becker during West Ham’s corner allowed Fornals’ delivery to bundle into the back of the net.
Liverpool had their first effort on goal through Diogo Jota whose header from a Jordan Henderson cross could only skim the roof of the net.
The leveller finally came for the Reds who had been in control of the game’s proceedings with Trent Alexander-Arnold curling a fantastic free-kick over the West Ham wall to find the top corner.
Both sides went into the half-time break at 1-1 and the second period’s start saw the visitors push forward in their attempts to take a lead but West Ham had other plans in store for Jurgen Klopp’s men.
With a little more than 20 minutes left to play for, Jarrow Bowen set up Fornals with a well timed pass and the latter made no mistake in slotting the ball past Alisson to make it 2-1 for The Hammers.
Liverpool were in for another setback which put the match firmly in West Ham’s hold as Kurt Zouma rose from a corner to head the ball and double the advantage for his side.
Substitute Divock Origi reduced the deficit for Liverpool with the Belgian making a quick turn inside the box and dispatching his effort into the back of the net but West Ham upped their defensive game to seal the win.
